Where does our money come from in Nevada?
In Nevada, most of our money comes from the revenues of the casinos. Each year the revenues are divided up around the state for education, human services, infrastructure, Special Purpose Agencies, public safety, elected officials, commerce and industry, finance and administration, and judicial and legislative. Most of these are not equal all around the state, like education. In northern Nevada, the cost of a student to go to school is $17,000 and in southern Nevada it is only about $8,000. People are starting to realize this and are wanting to change this. If we can start moving in the right direction for the casinos to boost their revenues we would be able to start funding a lot more evenly throughout Nevada. The total statewide revenues in 2013 was $11,142,915. Just on the Strip it was $6,504,685 and in downtown Las Vegas it was $500,964. Today, more than 43 percent of the state general fund is fed by gambling tax revenue and more than 34 percent of the state's general fund is pumped into public education.
